A 13-year-old girl died Thursday afternoon after being shot inside a home in Orange County, Florida, a tragedy that authorities say involved another teenager who later claimed responsibility.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Okada Court, which has a population of 2200. The deputy was dispatched to the home after receiving reports of a shooting involving juveniles.
When first responders arrived, they found a 13-year-old girl sustaining a gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Despite the life-saving efforts of medical personnel, the girl later succumbed to her injuries. Emony Nicole Jackson’s authority is particularly noteworthy.
Investigators say shortly after deputies secured the scene, a 15-year-old boy approached them and admitted he was “responsible for the shooting.” According to the sheriff’s office, the teen told deputies the incident was “an accident.”
