Diddy’s Mother Rejects Claims About Family and Past in Netflix Doc

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mother, Janice Combs, is pushing back forcefully against the allegations detailed in Netflix’s new docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning. In a statement shared with Deadline, she criticized the four-part series for what she described as a collection of false claims that distort her son’s past and unfairly damage their family’s name.

Janice said her decision to speak out came after watching narratives she believes were constructed to sensationalize Diddy’s life story rather than reflect the truth. “I am writing this statement to correct some of the lies presented in the Netflix documentary Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” she wrote. She argued that the docuseries contains “inaccuracies regarding my son Sean’s upbringing and family life” and insisted these errors were “intentionally done to mislead viewers and further harm our reputation.”

A central point of her rebuttal involved a claim made by Kirk Burrowes, a longtime associate of Diddy’s, who alleged that Diddy slapped Janice during a conversation following the tragic City College stampede in 1991. Janice categorically rejected that assertion.

“The allegations stated by Mr. Kirk Burrows [sic] that my son slapped me while we were conversing after the tragic City College events on December 28, 1991, are inaccurate and patently false,” she said.

She described that day as one marked by grief for the entire family, making it even more upsetting to see it used as what she considers a tool in a larger agenda. “That was a very sad day for all of us … For him to use this tragedy and incorporate fake narratives to further his prior failed and current attempt to gain what was never his Bad Boy Records is wrong, outrageous and past offensive.”

Janice went on to call for accountability from those behind the docuseries. “I am requesting that these distortions, falsehoods and misleading statements be publicly retracted,” she said, making clear she wants corrections issued, not just private acknowledgments. Her statement underscores the frustration and emotional weight she feels as the family faces renewed public scrutiny.

On December 2nd, Sean Combs: The Reckoning made its debut on that streaming service. This documentary series arrives at a time when Diddy is already receiving a great deal of attention from the general public, and it investigates a wide variety of charges and scandals that surround the music entrepreneur. An aspect that has contributed to increased interest in his history and magnified responses to the publication of the documentary is the fact that he was found guilty of two crimes relating to prostitution earlier this year, for which he was first charged.

A new dimension has been added to the continuing discussion over the manner in which the series depicts Diddy’s life and the reasons why some of the claims that are featured in it were made. Janice’s answer added this additional dimension. At the same time, her remark shows a mother’s defense of her son; it also underlines her concern that some of the people portrayed in the video may have ulterior intentions relating to previous disagreements, particularly long-standing issues connected to Bad Boy Records.

Given that she is so adamant about retractions, she may continue to advocate for corrections or more public answers as the documentary series continues to get attention. For viewers, her statements raise issues about the veracity of specific tales and highlight the larger argument over how the storytelling of documentaries interacts with personal history, court struggles, and public image.

Despite the fact that Netflix has not yet provided a reaction to Janice’s comments, the fact that she has received such harsh criticism means that the conversation around Sean Combs: The Reckoning is not yet finished.

Diddy is in jail reason

Due to the fact that he was arrested in September 2024 and later convicted of federal charges, including transportation to engage in prostitution, as a result of investigations into sex trafficking and other misconduct, Sean “Diddy” Combs is currently serving a prison sentence after his trial. He was denied bail due to the fact that he posed a flight risk and could potentially intimidate witnesses.

Diddy case update

Following a high-profile trial in which he was found not guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering but found guilty on two related offenses, Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced to more than four years in prison for transporting persons for prostitution. This sentence was handed down sometime in the latter half of the year 2025. Even though he had already begun serving his term in a federal prison in New Jersey, his attorneys filed an appeal in December 2025, stating that the conviction was based on the prejudice of the judge and the improper application of the law. They also requested that the case be reviewed more quickly.

Diddy divorce

Although Sean “Diddy” Combs has never been legally married, he has been the subject of rumors and dramatic breakups in his high-profile relationships, particularly with Kim Porter and Jennifer Lopez. Diddy’s ex-husband Ojani Noa even blamed Diddy for his divorce from Lopez, but the reality is that Diddy has never actually divorced anyone.
