Scott Wolf Drops Restraining Order as Estranged Wife Remains in Psychiatric Care (Photo by Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic)
While Kelley Wolf, his estranged wife, receives ongoing treatment in a mental health facility, Scott Wolf has revoked his restraining order against her. At a hearing on Dec. 3, a Utah court granted the 57-year-old actor’s request, formally terminating the months-long, modified temporary protection order.
For the ex-couple, the ruling represents a new chapter in a convoluted and agonizing sequence of legal and medical developments. Growing worries about Kelley’s mental health quickly followed Scott’s June divorce filing. Days after the divorce was filed, Kelley, then 49, was placed on an involuntary hold. This marked the start of a time marked by frequent hospital stays, legal issues, and growing safety concerns.
When Kelley was jailed in August for allegedly sharing personal information about friends, family, and Scott online, things got worse, according to People. A court order prohibiting her from communicating with Scott or their three children was issued as a result of the event. However, prosecutors claim that she broke that protection order within a week, which escalated the matter and resulted in a second misdemeanor prosecution.

The crisis reached yet another tipping point by the end of September. After allegedly threatening herself and Scott, Kelley was admitted to the hospital once more. After an assessment, a judge ruled that she needed to be placed under mandatory medication compliance and an involuntary mental stay for at least 60 days. The decision emphasized how serious her mental health issues were and how long-term, structured care was required.
Since then, Kelley’s continued therapy has caused her to skip multiple court dates. She was moved to a different mental health facility in Utah in the middle of October to continue her treatment. According to US Weekly, the move meant that her condition was still too unstable for court proceedings and that her treatment would need to be prolonged and properly monitored.
In light of this, Scott asked for the restraining order to be lifted. The judge’s consent represents Scott’s choice to loosen the legal limits while Kelley is still in the hospital, but it does not alter the fact that she is still receiving court-mandated psychiatric care. All communication was prohibited by the protection order, which was first implemented in response to worries about harassment and safety arising from Kelley’s internet posts and alleged infractions.
Although the couple’s marriage had been mostly secret in recent years, their difficulties have come to light in recent months. What started as a divorce case swiftly turned into a complicated case, including court proceedings, mental health issues, and numerous interventions by law enforcement and medical specialists. The sequence of events depicts a family trapped in a vicious circle of instability, as Scott manages his divorce and his pressing need to keep his kids safe.

There are no signs that Kelley will be leaving inpatient psychiatric care anytime soon, even if the restraining order has been lifted. The course of the divorce procedures and any outstanding charges will depend on how she continues to receive therapy. Other than the fact that Kelley will continue to be monitored by medical professionals while they attempt to stabilize her condition, not much is known at this time.
The judge’s most recent decision seems to be moving the emphasis away from additional legal escalation and toward Kelley’s recuperation. The Wolf family is still dealing with a very personal and challenging chapter that has been defined by months of emotional stress, judicial intervention, and constant worry for Kelley’s well-being.
Kelley Announces Their Divorce
On June 10, 2025, Kelley posted a message on Instagram announcing their divorce, along with a picture of a lion and three birds in a field.
“Scott and I are proceeding with the dissolution of our marriage with a heavy heart,” she wrote. For me, this has been a lengthy, silent path based on patience, hope, and concern for our kids. I feel at ease knowing that I’ve done all in my power to follow this road with honesty and compassion, even if I won’t discuss the specifics in public.
“Scott Wolf is one of the best fathers I’ve ever known and one of the best partners a woman could have the privilege of sharing life with,” Kelley said, referring to her former husband. He has a lovely attitude, is witty, considerate, and kind. Both of us anticipate a fantastic life focused on the most exceptional kids.
The life coach went on to say that her “priority” is both her “own healing” and her children’s “wellbeing.”
“That won’t ever alter. With grace, I am beginning a new chapter of independence, serenity, and safety. “I am grateful to the numerous friends, family, and professionals who have lovingly made room for me,” she said in closing. “Please be considerate of our privacy at this time. May we all keep in mind that mending is quiet. It’s holy. 🤍
Divorce petition filed by Scott
The next day, Scott sent a statement to People, breaking his silence on the divorce. “I have made the most difficult decision of my life and filed for divorce from my wife, Kelley, after 21 years of marriage,” he said. “I respectfully request your privacy during this time as we assist our children in navigating this new chapter, as they have always been and still are our top priorities and the loves of our lives.”
