Jennifer Lawrence has opened up about a habit that might surprise even her longtime fans. Despite being one of Hollywood’s most successful and recognizable stars, the Oscar-winning actress says she avoids watching her own films whenever possible.
Speaking with Leonardo DiCaprio for Variety, the 35-year-old actress admitted she simply doesn’t enjoy seeing herself on screen. “No [I don’t watch my own films],” Lawrence said plainly. She added that there is only one exception she can imagine. “I’ve never made something like Titanic – if I did, I would watch it.”
Even when curiosity briefly got the better of her, the experience did not leave much of an impression. Lawrence shared a self-deprecating story about the one time she tried to evaluate her own work. “Once I was really drunk, I put on American Hustle. I was like, I wonder if I’m good at acting? I put it on, and I don’t remember what the answer is,” she said.
During the conversation, Lawrence also reflected on her time working with director David O. Russell, who directed her in Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and Joy. While Russell has faced criticism for his intense working style, Lawrence credited him with shaping her as an actor.

“He taught me how to act, really,” she said. At the same time, she acknowledged his reputation. “I want to be sensitive to the other actors who’ve worked with him. I know he’s tough. He can be really, really hard on people.”
Lawrence explained that her own background helped her respond differently to Russell’s approach. “For me, I don’t know if it was because I grew up doing sports, and so I felt like he was just a stern coach,” she said. “’ Do it loud,’ ‘Do it quieter,’ ‘That was b*,’ ‘That was bad,’ ‘Do it better.’ He was very straightforward with me.”
She added that age and timing also played a role in how she experienced that collaboration. “I was 21 when I did Silver Linings, and it felt alive. I never felt like he was yelling at me,” Lawrence said. She made it clear she prefers honesty over delicacy on set. “I really don’t like being tiptoed around, like I’m an emotional landmine. I hate that.”
Now, Lawrence is looking ahead rather than back. She is set to return to one of her most iconic franchises in the highly anticipated 2026 prequel, The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping. Even then, fans shouldn’t expect her to be watching herself in the theater anytime soon.
