A Texas woman has been jailed after authorities say she shot her live-in boyfriend during an argument at their home.

Alanna Dawn Bilbo, 33, is facing one count of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury to a person with whom she was in a relationship, according to charging documents obtained by Law&Crime.

The shooting allegedly happened Monday evening at a residence on County Road 2813 in Alto, a small town in the Piney Woods region of East Texas, about 26 miles west of Nacogdoches.

Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home around 7 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting, according to a probable cause statement.

Once inside the residence, detectives spoke with Bilbo after she had been read her Miranda rights. Authorities said Bilbo told investigators she had been involved in “a verbal argument” with her “live-in boyfriend” about “their relationship.”

According to the charging document, the argument escalated after the man allegedly taunted Bilbo while standing outside the home.

“Alanna was standing in the doorway of their residence and [the boyfriend] was standing outside in front of the stairway yelling at her to shoot him, and she shot him between the eyes with a .22 caliber revolver,” the probable cause statement reads.

Authorities said the man then turned to his left while holding his face with his hands. Bilbo allegedly fired again, this time striking him in the back of the neck, according to the sheriff’s office.

Cherokee County Sheriff Brent Dickson said the shooting was initially reported as an accident, according to comments reported by Jacksonville.

After the shooting, the victim was flown to a hospital in Tyler for treatment. Dickson said he was in stable condition as of Tuesday.

The sheriff also told KETK that Bilbo and her boyfriend were both allegedly using drugs at the time of the shooting.

Bilbo is currently being held in the Cherokee County Jail on a $150,000 bond. Court records also show that a magistrate judge issued a protective order preventing her from contacting her boyfriend for the next three months.

The order also bars Bilbo from possessing a firearm while the case moves forward.

Authorities have not publicly released additional details about the victim’s injuries or the events that led up to the argument. The case remains active, and Bilbo is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
